Position Spotlight: Load Dispatcher
LADWP Load Dispatchers help direct the transfer of power from Department generating stations to the homes of our customers. Based out of the Energy Control Center, Load Dispatchers exercise centralized control over electric transmission and distribution lines, as well as other equipment of the Power System. These team members oversee the operation of the Bulk Electric and Distribution Systems to maintain the safe, efficient delivery of power to customers while upholding reliable grid operations that follow North American Electric Reliability Corporation standards. Load Dispatchers are constantly in-tune with what lines need to be removed from service, or restored to service, during both routine and emergency work.
“My favorite part of being a Load Dispatcher is the problem-solving and comradery. Every shift, there will be similar jobs with a slight twist that may require your expertise. There’s nothing boring or mundane about the day-to-day work we do, and the teamwork in the room is amazing. We can draw on the experience of other Load Dispatchers to help each other develop a solution. If you enjoy problem-solving, teamwork, and a rewarding work environment that challenges you to be better, then becoming a Load Dispatcher is right for you.”
Jerome Caldito, Load Dispatcher, Energy Control Center
The application period for the Load Dispatcher classification will open in May 2025. Visit JoinLADWP.com for more details and to apply.

In March, LADWP’s National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Professional Chapter participated in the national NSBE organization’s 2025 Annual Convention in Chicago, Illinois. Over 15,000 pre-collegiate, collegiate, and professional NSBE members made their way to McCormick Place Convention Center to partake in five days of chapter business, networking, personal and professional growth activities, and recruitment opportunities. This year was extra special, as LADWP’s NSBE chapter received the Region VI Pre-College Initiative Program of the Year award, highlighting their excellence in engaging with local K-12 students in the communities LADWP serves. Through enriching Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programming and outreach, LADWP-NSBE plays a key role in supporting the Department’s goal of championing the next generation of STEM professionals.

“The engineering students inspired me the most because they reminded me why I chose engineering as my career. Seeing so many passionate, driven individuals who look like me, pushing boundaries, and supporting each other, made me feel a deep sense of belonging. Their resilience in the face of challenges and their excitement for innovation reignited my own motivation. Hearing their stories, sharing experiences, and witnessing their ambition inspires me.”
Katina Thomas, Civil Engineering Associate and LADWP|NSBE President
LADWP engineering, IT and recruitment staff were also in attendance to represent the Department during a career fair that featured over 400 exhibitors. Our team used a visually compelling display featuring videos and images of current Department employees to showcase the exciting career opportunities available at the Department.
