A Message from Chief Executive Officer and Chief Engineer Janisse QuiƱones
As the year will soon come to an end, I wanted to take a moment to reflect and share that I am very proud of the work we have accomplished together, and wish you and your families very nice and joyful holidays.
In a year of transition, each of you have done your part to serve our City and LADWP with pride and I appreciate all that you do.
The work that we do to provide water and electric service often goes unnoticed and underappreciated, but I want each of you to know that you are an important part of our team. There were also many visible and noticeable highlights during the past year. Many of them are highlighted in this issue of Intake magazine
We advanced our goal to increase our local water supply through recycled water, with the approval of construction for the Los Angeles Groundwater Replenishment Project at the Donald C. Tillman Water Reclamation Plant. We did so while being awarded $428 million in federal, state and local funds, which will reduce the costs to our customers while creating a more sustainable water supply for Angelenos.
We continued to quickly expand our carbon free power supply. In December, we celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of our Eland Solar and Storage Center, which when finished in early 2025 will push us to 64 percent clean energy.
We also made great strides to support our most vulnerable customers, continuing our efforts through our Powered by Equity initiative, Customer Support Saturdays, and introducing our Cool LA Heat Relief for Seniors events.
Through our monthly town halls, we created a way to keep you informed about the incredible work that our colleagues throughout the Department undertake each day. We recently held the eighth of these meetings, which was our first in the Owens Valley.
So much more work lies ahead of us in 2025 as we strive to be the utility that will ensure a greener and more equitable future for Los Angeles. I look forward to the great things we will accomplish together in New Year and beyond.
Thank you for all that you do each day to make us stronger and more resilient.
Happy New Year, LADWP colleagues!
Sincerely,
